"Annadānam, the feeding of hungry, is far superior to donating 1000 elephants and horses, donating 10 million cows, donating any number of vessels of silver and gold, donating the entire land till sea, offering the entire services of the clan or even helping in the marriage of 10 million women."
To ensure safe and healthy food supply for free is the ultimate aim of the Sevabharathi Annadhanam Project and feeding the hungry people is carried out by the organisation for the last 16 years on a daily basis. The free food facility helps the people irrespective of religion, caste and creed to enjoy tasty and healthy food in between their days of pain and sufferings and ensure that they are free from the exploitation from the hotels nearby.Sevabharathi, Kerala is conducting Annadhanam mainly at 4 different centers:
Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram is one of the best medical college in Kerala and people from different places are reaching there daily for diagnosis and expert medical advice. Along with it, other hospitals such as Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Sree Chithra etc. are also in the same premises and Sevabharathi Kerala could feed an average of 1500 people on a daily basis in the premises. The people can avail the service at free of cost and the food served there are ensured with best quality checks.
Under this project, food is being distributed free of cost to the poor patients and bystanders at the Government Hospital, Peroorkada. Nearly, 370 people are being given food regularly. Money is collected from the service-minded people who contribute on occasions like marriage, birthday, house warming, death ceremonies etc.
An average of 250 people who are not able to pay for quality food are availing the annadhanam service of Sevabharathi Kerala at the Palode Taluk Hospital premises.
Sevabharathi Kerala is also providing free meals to the poor people at Neyyattinkara hospital on a daily basis and an average of 300 people are feeding with the help of Sevabharathi for no cost.
According to the Mythology, in Kerala, Chinga Thiruvonam is considered to be the day of prosperity and happiness and all festival is celebrated with a full and prosperous meal called as "Thiruvonasadya. As the occasion is a state holiday, the people who are in hospitals found it very difficult to have food and water as the shops will be closed on that day. Further, certain hotels are exploiting the situation overcharging the price of the food in the name of Thiruvonasadya.Hence, to tackle this issue, Sevabharathi started to conduct Thiruvonasadya for the poor and helpless at the Medical College premises and Peroorkada Hospital and for the last 16 years, the feast is filling the stomach and hearts of the people. Last year, Eminent Film Personality and Social Worker, Shri. Suresh Gopi has inaugurated and served this feast for the poor ones at the Medical College premises. Approximately, 10000 people were fed on that day with full meals in a traditional way.
